Venting

It truly has been a long while since I wrote a blog post. I suppose I just lost interest in blogging about senseless, meaningless stuff, happily raving on about my interests and small happenings in my life that mean close to nothing.

So I figure, why not use it to vent and rant instead? Maybe no one will see this, but it gives me an outlet at the very least.

Right, University, Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting. Completely and utterly fucked up my Accounting (Financial) 250 exams. Depending on how badly I failed, there are two outcomes:

1. I score at least 45% for the module, and get to re-take the paper without having to go through the entire module again.

2. I score below 45% for the module, and have to re-do the entire module. This will add another semester to my quest for a degree, and cost me S$2000+

Outcome 2 is undesirable. Main reason why, is the extra 4 months I have to spend to get a degree. I am anxious to start working, to start having an income. Many have asked why am I rushing with life when someone at my age (20) should be taking his own time discovering himself and enjoying life, after all, once this part of your life passes, you're never gonna get it back!

The responses I have given range from the light-hearted "I want money" to the possibly naive "I'd rather spend time earning money, than spending money to spend time". Notice how all of these reasons revolve around money, for that is key. My parents are able to provide for me. While we are not exactly rich, we are well off, but it is evident that having to provide for a person's tertiary education alongside another's secondary education does put a burden on them because education is not cheap.

The one reason that I want so badly to start working as soon as I am capable, which I have not yet told anyone, is because I want to start providing for my family, regardless of how small my contributions are. More specifically, I want to help pay for my younger brother's education. I want to lessen the burden on my parents. While I do hide some resentment from past circumstances, let me make it clear that I am very grateful for the opportunities my parents have provided me with, and the fact that they have provided for me my entire life. NOTHING I can ever hope to do, will be able to compensate in any way or form for that.

So let's make this clear. I am not rushing through life. I simply know what I want out of it, and want as much as possible, to achieve those objectives as fast as I can.

RAAAAAAAWR!!

It's been a while, hasn't it?

Many things happened, but the most recent event that is of significance is Anime Festival Asia the Saturday and Sunday that just passed. Spent pretty much both days at the event and going crazy with my money. Only went for Saturday night's concert, lost my voice to Z!!!!!!!!!

Aside from that, nothing of great importance or interest happened, at least, nothing that I feel the need to blog about. Man, if my life keeps up being this boring, this blog will die one day won't it?

Like Zepy of Canned Dogs, I suck at Starcraft

Yes, this blog is still alive, amazingly enough.

As you might've noticed (or not), every time I mention news of a holiday, a long one, that is coming up soon, this blog goes dead for the entirety of that holiday, perhaps even more! Care to hazard a guess at what I'd be doing?

A whole lot of nothing, yes. The life we live is limited, so it might seem downright insane to waste it doing nothing, especially when it seems like I'm in times that requires action a lot more. I won't elaborate, but perhaps that is the very reason why I often choose to do nothing instead of something, or anything at all for that matter.

For the first time in my life, I decided to take part in a large event, namely the launch of a game, Starcraft II. While I may not have been waiting and anticipating a sequel for 12 years like some have, or even played the game much, I most certainly enjoyed what little bits and pieces of the first game that I've played quite a few years back. After being told that a launch event was to be held at Funan Digitalife Mall, I checked and saw that the first 1337 people in line would get a special silver dog-tag.

Attracted by the freebies and the game itself, I promptly made the decision to go pick the game up at the launch event instead of picking it up at the shop a day later. Only on that morning, at 8am did I thought to myself "This is my first time doing something like this!" Prior to this, I have not experienced such at atmosphere.

The various activities such as introducing people to the development team of SCII, began at 10am, while the launch of the game itself, and also the time where we would begin to receive our copies of the game, starts at 12:30pm.

Don't be fooled, there was some 200 odd people already inside the building, sitting in queue. My position was somewhere in the 300s.

Another 15 minutes, it turned into that.

And another hour or so, this mass of people gathered.

Photo of Brian Kindregan, Lead Writer for SCII. In a brief conversation with him during the autograph session, he told me that it was his first time in Singapore, seemed rather happy to be here. At first, only the first 200 people in line would get the autograph, but he apparently just kept on going regardless, which was why many others also got it. Pretty nice of him, don't you think?

You've seen the line outside, this is the mess inside. Still a way to go till you get your hands on your own copy of SCII after being ushered into the mall by the crew outside. Showmatches kept everyone entertained though.

Photos of the stuff that I got. The poster is quite nice, so is the 1337 tag that I managed to get my hands on. The t-shirt, I'll leave for another post.

Yay for absurdly long post.

STAND UP!!

IT'S IN OUR SIGHTS! THE OASIS KNOWN AS HOLIDAYS ARE NEARLY HERE!!!

Starts the week after the next, actually.

Nothing interesting ever since the last post, except for the rush of work that flooded most of us at school. Namely, the Economics commentary work and English Individual Oral Presentation (IOP), and for some, their Maths Internal Assessment pieces.

Went to the Assisi Hospice Charity Carnival for the first time on the 29th, not voluntary though. The entire class was kinda forced to participate by running a games store. Half-assed effort resulted in pretty bad "business" for the morning, according to the rest of the people who turned up for their shifts after mine. Thankfully, someone brilliantly improved the game that our store was running and we ended up being marginally successful.

Went to Viky's birthday "party" on the 28th, Friday. After everyone was present at around 4pm, took us a while to get to our destination, Wild Wild Wet. Had a bit of fun, but finishing up was kinda dragged on with reluctance too. Pretty fun day.

Been playing lots of Red Dead Redemption. The game has its fair share of hilarious bugs that were of legendary quality, of which I actually appreciated, but the gameplay itself was great. Definitely recommend to those who can get it.

If you must know, no aspiring plans for the holidays. I doubt the teachers will let us off easy seeing as we have 7 weeks of "nothing" in their eyes.

Mad rush

Went to Tioman on the 23rd of March for my Biology field trip. Not exactly a relaxing trip seeing as we're there to work, work, and work. Snorkeling, while fun, wasn't exactly doing anything for me seeing as without my glasses, I couldn't really see anything. Richard, our group leader, would point at something and go "Did you see what I pointed at? It was [insert name here]". Everyone would nod and understand, while I'd nod knowing what he was talking about, and explaining, but not seeing a damn thing.

The hike up the forest was rather tiring, but at least it's better than the climb up Mt.Merapi in Sumatra. Didn't help that I got stomach ache when we reached our second survey site. Other things of note was that the food there was awesome, and we generally had fun.

Got back to Singapore on the 27th, and two days later, it's back to Malaysia again. I didn't return to Segamat, just stayed in Seremban at my grandmother's place. Lots of relatives came back, but other then talking to each other, only thing to do there was to spectate quarrels between my grandmother and a mentally ill aunt of mine. Amusing, but noisy.

Mad rush of work to do when school started again on the 12th of April. Still ongoing, I think. Now that we're nearly at the mid-year point, all the Internal Assessment pieces are piling up, with deadlines looming, but it's all under control.

Got a Acer S243HL monitor, it's not the best out there, but for what I paid for (about S$325, price in Singapore is about S$500), it's pretty much what I want (HDCP support on HDMI port). So now, I can play PS3 in my room~! Like the reviews would tell you if you bothered to read them, the contrast on this thing isn't really good, causing the picture quality to be rather inferior, but it CAN be fixed. There's automatic setups for things like the contrast, colour and brightness, but they don't work that well. I spent around 30 minutes messing around with the settings until the picture quality matched that of my TV's.

Didn't buy Final Fantasy XIII, but my cousin did. So when he went to Australia with his family to attend his brother's University graduation ceremony and for vacation, I borrowed the game from him, and finished it within two weeks, the duration of his trip. Basically, I just got the game, sat down whenever I had free time, and rushed the heck out of it. That's not to say I blindly rushed through the game's plot, I did do some sidequests and grinded a fair bit. Not as bad a game as some would claim, but just doesn't really feel like a Final Fantasy game.

This post is running a bit too long now yeah?

Gasp! A post!

It's been more than a month, is he finally giving up on blogging?

Naw, apparently not. Like I've said, this blog will only be updated when there's something of note. No sense in posting an update on how I hit my foot the day or what I ate for dinner last night (it was soup) yeah? I have a plain life, sue me if you can.

Been really hooked on Bad Company 2 ever since it was released. I got Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition too, it's the Region 3 one, not the Japanese Region 2 or the Europe Region 2 or the North America Region 1. Never been much of a Resident Evil player, so first few chapters I sucked horribly.

I encourage those of you who can and are interested to get Bad Company 2, it's a good shooter, might even replace Modern Warfare 2 for some. Dice has excellent support of the game with things like the dedicated servers that people take for granted. I like how team based the game is, but the downside to that is getting some frustratingly stubborn players who refuse to work with the team or just waste tickets for no good reason, like rushing straight into a heavily defended room where the M-comm is without precaution. The game, with its wide array of equipments and styles of gameplay can result in sometimes unpredictable and unorthodox ways of playing.

That aside, Day of Miku concert was awesome, definitely going to order the DVD from Amazon when its released. Pity that some songs were rushed through and some great songs like Packaged and Love is War wasn't included. Oh well, hopes for the next concert I suppose.

Is there a point in titles for blog entries?

Oh hey look, it's an excuse to squeeze in another post for the month to make it look like I'm hard at work, maintaining the blog. Why do I even bother, that's such a huge lie and the world knows it~!

Really, you'd think 3 year later I'd bother to change the layout of this blog even a little, but evidently I'm too lazy. Maybe SOMEDAY I'll get off my arse and do something about it, but you'll have to deal with this dullness until that miracle happens yeah?

Bought both the 2nd and 1st game of the Mass Effect trilogy. The 2nd game just came out quite recently, and because I nitpick on tiny little details, figured I might as well plough through the 1st game. I find it nifty how seemingly tiny decisions can have huge consequences that carry on to the sequel in the series.

Just last week I finished Valkyria Chronicles, and even finished the Edy Detachment DLC and Selvaria DLC. I'll put 2nd playthrough and the EX Skirmish missions after I finish up Eternal Sonata. I believe I'm nearing the latter part of that game, with a while more to go and one huge arse dungeon ahead of me. Don't you just LOVE dungeon crawling?

Went out with schoolmates and friends to the Manhattan Fish Market at Plaza Singapura for lunch yesterday. First time eating there, and I think I may be returning again for a meal or two, the food is good there, if you don't mind the prices, it's seafood afterall.

Though school's been on for 4 weeks already, I've only my first taste of the full swing of things just this last week, when ALL my CCAs finally started. Homework is at a manageable level, I've been through much worse, so I'll do fine. Lessons wise, things are going fine so far, though I do have to put in noticeably more effort then I did the last few years of my life. I'll have to put in more for this year and the next if I want to get into SMU. Guess that means I actually have to work these two years eh?
